Agreement Drafting

We meet with all of our new clients one-on-one. This initial meeting is invaluable to welcoming you to the Alinea family and ensuring that we can continue to support you through your separation process.

Our Agreement Drafting services are for you if you’ve already worked out an agreement with your spouse and you just want to have it properly drawn up.

Separation Agreement Coaching Package

This package is for you, if you and your spouse:

have attended mediation and have a memorandum of understanding, or
are still communicating easily, and
are on the same page about what you want in your agreement, how your assets/debts will be divided, and/or how you will be parenting after your separation.

Included:

1-hour one-on-one session with lawyer, where you get an overview of your rights, responsibilities and entitlements at law and an assessment of how your proposed agreement stacks up;
Email communication with firm;
Drafting of agreement by lawyer as per client instructions;
Email support before finalizing agreement; and
Final meeting with lawyer to witness signature/finalize agreement.

Not Included:

Communication with opposing lawyer or other spouse, and
Revisions to terms of agreement

$2500 plus tax, for clients without children

$3000 plus tax, for clients with children

$500 plus tax per set of revisions to drafted agreement with new information/changes from client (optional)

Add-ons available:

File your agreement at the court registry – $80 plus taxes and filing fees
Rush fee – $500 plus tax
Negotiation Support (our family lawyer contacts your spouse or spouse’s lawyer on your behalf) – $375/hour plus tax

Cohabitation Agreements Coaching Package

This package is for you if you and your partner:

have a good idea of what you want in your agreement, and
are generally familiar with what your rights and entitlements at law would be without the agreement.

Included:

1-hour one-on-one session with lawyer, where you get overview of your rights, responsibilities and entitlements at law and how your proposed agreement changes (or doesn’t change) those rights, responsibilities and entitlements;
Drafting of agreement by lawyer as per client instructions; and
Final meeting with lawyer to witness signature/finalize agreement.

Not Included:

Communication with opposing lawyer or other spouse, and
Revisions to terms of agreement

$3000 plus tax

$500 plus tax per set of revisions to drafted agreement with new information/changes from client (optional)

Add-ons available:

File your agreement at the court registry – $80 plus taxes and court filing fees
Rush fee – $400 plus tax

Independent Legal Advice on Agreement

This is for you if your partner or former partner has presented you with an agreement they want you to sign. Even if you are feeling confident the agreement is what you want, it’s a good idea to get a lawyer to review the agreement, so that you can get some context as to how the agreement affects your legal rights and responsibilities.

Included:

1.5hr one-on-one session with lawyer to

get overview of rights, responsibilities and entitlements at law on separation;
review of agreement to get detailed insight as to how your agreement affects your rights, responsibilities and entitlements at law on separation;
Lawyer will sign a certificate of independent legal advice at end of session, and
Lawyer will witness client’s signature on agreement.

Cost: $750 plus tax
